Major Online Failure Hits Many Online Platforms and Mobile Apps

An extensive internet outage has affected dozens websites and mobile apps globally, and users experiencing issues connecting to the web after problems at Amazon’s web hosting platform.

The disrupted services include Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and Duolingo, along with several Amazon-owned services like its primary shopping website and the Ring security home security firm.

Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was impacted in addition to its subsidiaries Halifax and Bank of Scotland, with also reports of problems reaching the HMRC website on Monday morning. Additionally in Britain, many Ring device owners used social media to report their doorbells were failing.

Solely in the United Kingdom, reports of problems on particular applications totaled the tens of thousands for each platform.

Officials confirmed that the outage started in the Atlantic coast of the US at AWS, a division that offers vital internet framework for many businesses, who rent out capacity on the company's servers. AWS is the world’s largest online services platform.
