NFL Roundup: Denver Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos clinched a close win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to seal the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Wins Game
Even with recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after giving up a two-point play in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Offense
Despite their dismal offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to score a possible winning score. However Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented after the game.
