Prince William Will Participate in COP30 Climate Summit in South America

The Prince of Wales plans to participate in the COP30 climate summit in Brazil in the coming weeks, as announced by palace sources.

The father and son duo appeared together on Thursday night at a gathering preceding the climate summit, which is planned for in the Amazonian city of Belém.

Father and son were present at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an unusual joint appearance at a pre-COP30 gathering arranged together with the UK government.

Climate Leadership Commitment

The King has been a longstanding advocate of environmental conservation - and the Prince of Wales has assumed the responsibility, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be hosted in Rio before the UN meeting.

Palace insiders have described William's involvement at the forthcoming conference as taking on an important role in "global climate discussions".

Recent Engagements

The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the official car, were introduced to guests including environmentalists, researchers, climate change campaigners, diplomats and politicians.

This involvement featured addresses alongside French leader Macron of France and other global statesmen at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco earlier this year.

Environmental Prize Connection

The COP30 summit will coincide with the prince's own Earthshot environmental awards, which will conclude in the Brazilian city the eve of he attends the COP summit on 6 November.

Last week the William described the prize competitors as "contemporary champions".

Monarch's Environmental Record

The King has been a prominent presence at earlier environmental conferences, giving the opening address in the United Arab Emirates for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the statement: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".

"Throughout my life I've dedicated a substantial portion of my life trying to alert people to the critical dangers challenging our world over planetary heating, environmental shifts and biodiversity loss," the sovereign addressed participants.
